The main aims of the Festival and Contest are to bring together TWO GREAT CULTURES – BRITISH AND RUSSIAN, to attract both English and Russian-speaking musicians to perform famous Russian music, to advance Russian culture, promote the works of Russian composers and poets, seek out and present new talent, support young performers as well as professionals, and to maintain and develop the traditions of Russian vocal, musical and poetic art. Within the Festival, the cultural project “In Dedication to Elena Obraztsova” will be held, including a photo exhibition and film demonstration about the singer’s life and work. The GALA CONCERT/CONTEST’S FINALE will be held at: Cadogan Hall, Chelsea, London – First round of auditions of recordings (video or audio, no elaboration or improvement) and short-listing of applicants for the Gala Concert Finale. The auditions and short-listing are carried out by members of the panel of judges, consisting of outstanding Russian and British artists. Second round (Finale) Live contest of pre-selected finalists at the International Russian Song Festival – in Cadogan Hall, London, 29 April 2018. The preparation and conducting of the contest is supervised by an Oganising Committee, whose members are appointed by the Organisers. ORGANISING COMMITTEE OF THE CONTEST: Chair of the Organising Committee and Festival founder – Olga Bramley Deputy Chair – Maria Viktorovna Zheleznikova Administrators, volunteer assistants The Festival’s concert leader and pianist The Contest will be photographed and filmed on video, and the Gala Concert will be broadcast live on the Internet. The Organising Committee forms working groups according to their areas of expertise, calculates estimates of expenses and presents these to the Organisers for approval, determines the composition of the panel, creates a prize fund, provides sponsorship and informational support for the Contest, monitors the period of preparation for the Contest and carries out measures directly associated with the Contest. The panel of judges includes celebrated musicians and performers who reflect the nature of the Festival (5-7 persons). THE CONTEST’S PANEL OF JUDGES. (Additions or amendments to the Panel may be made at the decision of the Organising Committee.) The Panel evaluates the depth of the work’s recital, the degree of professional proficiency, appreciation of the style of the work being performed, musical culture, etc. The Panel evaluates the finalists according to a 10-point principle. The average score of the finalists is calculated from the total number of points awarded by the members of the Panel. The overall winner and prize-winners are decided by simple voting with a preliminary calculation of the points and discussion of the choice. The Panel’s decision is final and non-negotiable. The Panel may decide to award a Grand Prix to the participant acknowledged to be the best performer of the contest (irrespective of the nomination for their performance), and also special prizes. Participants of the contest will be advised of the deadlines for participation and the terms and conditions of the Contest via the media and the Internet. All participants of the contest will receive a Certificate of Participation Winners of the contest will receive a Prize Certificate Winners of first prizes will also receive a cash prize depending on the size of the prize fund. The minimum prize fund is £1,000.00. The finalists will participate in the Gala Concert at the Cadogan Hall on 29 April 2018. Sound and video recording will be on-going during the concluding Gala Concert of winners. The rights to these recordings are owned by the charity organisation Eurolog UK. Conditions for the 9th International Russian Song Festival and Vocal Contest in the United Kingdom, 2018. The following nominations for the contest have been decided PROVISIONALLY: 1st nomination: “Young Talent” – performers with no special musical education, and with basic musical education up to 17 years of age 2nd nomination: “Amateur Vocalists” – performers with no special musical education, and with basic musical education from 17 tо 50 years of age 3rd nomination: “Professional Artists” – performers in any professional genre up to 50 years of age 4th nomination : “Child and Youth Vocal Ensembles and Choirs” Up to the age 17.  Trios and quartets are classed as Ensembles. 5th nomination : “Adult Vocal Ensembles and Choirs” No age limit. Trios and quartets are classed as Ensembles. PROGRAMME OF THE CONTEST: RUSSIAN AND/OR ENGLISH CLASSICAL RUSSIAN AND/OR ENGLISH FOLK RUSSIAN AND/OR ENGLISH ROMANCE SONGS RUSSIAN AND/OR ENGLISH CONTEMPORARY SONGS Contestants choose from the genres: Folk, Romance Song, Classical or Quality Contemporary Russian Song. Contestants are also invited to perform an English song/romance/aria if they wish to do so. A Russian song/romance/aria is a compulsory component of the Contest! Either the best piece of work of two presented by a worthy (in the Panel’s opinion) performer, or both performances (at the Panel’s decision) are selected for the Finale. The final categories for the Contest Finale are determined from the applications selected, and prizes are awarded according to these categories. Participants perform no more than two pieces in different genres, to be chosen by the Panel. All finalists will be advised by the Organising Committee in writing by no later than 1 April 2018. The open Finale of the Contest will be held on Sunday, 29 April 2018 with the participation of a professional panel of judges. The Organising Committee’s written notification serves as confirmation of acceptance to the Finale. The programme of the Festival and Contest may be changed at the decision of the Organising Committee. A participant may perform in the Contest with an accompanist or with an accompanist of the Contest. All expenses for the participation of the participant’s accompanist will be borne by the participant. The accompaniment of and a ten-minute consultation with our accompanist before each round of the contest are free of charge. A fee is charged for additional individual sessions with our accompanist. The participant performs to the accompaniment of a live instrument – piano, guitar, etc. The performance of Romance songs using an audio recording is not permitted. Orchestral sound recordings WITHOUT BACKING VOCALS are permitted for folk and contemporary songs. An application for participation should be sent to the Organising Committee (an application form is enclosed). A copy of the proof of payment of the registration fee must be attached to the application form.
