hire1img_41581A legend of the Russian stage - one of Russia’s finest baritones

performs for charity in London 1, May 2012 at St. John’s, Smiths Square!

Sergey Zakharov - a famous Russian star is performing a special candlelit evening of the classical Russian Romance” Don’t go, stay with me!” in support of the Russian Language and Culture in the UK. Piano accompaniment by A. Kagan, Distinguished Artist of Russia.

A huge name in Russia, and amongst the Russian Community, Sergey Zakharov remains a hidden gem to British audiences.  Zakharov has a unique, velveteen baritone voice. His magical appeal has always attracted mass audiences starting from his early years as a leading singer at the St. Petersburg Musical Theatre. He has been soloist at the State Variety Orchestra under the directorship of Leonid Utesov-another Russian legendary singer. In 1996 Zakharov received the most prestigious award as a People’s Artist of Russia.

He has given performances in 41 countries around the world, including USA, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Israel, and Latin America. He always plays to a full house and amidst a sea of flowers.

Sergey Zaharov’s lyrical songs have earned a place in the “golden collection” of the best music of the Soviet era. Zakharov has found his own inimitable, confiding intonation, his feelings are genuine and his magnificent, powerful, deep baritone helps to create out of each song he performs a genuine revelation of vocal monologue.  There is an atmosphere of elevated spirit at his concerts.

As the star guest of the 5th UK Russian Song Festival at the Royal Over-Seas House in London, he gave an exceptional performance on Easter Sunday. “Zakharov is a true Russian entertainer, not only in his unique and superior talent as a singer but also as one who instantly connects with and charms his audience.” from the Festival’s trustees. Mr. Zakharov has now accepted the organisers’ invitation to become the patron of the annual UK Russian Song Festival.

Any concert by Sergey Zakharov is a special event; a celebration that can’t be missed! The forthcoming performance includes a selection of well-loved and timeless Russian classics, such as “I loved you” to lyrics by A. Pushkin, “I met you” to lyrics by F. Tutchev, ” Misty morning” to lyrics by I. Turgenev,  “‘Tis not you I love so ardently” to lyrics by M. Lermontov, “Troika”,Vdol  po Piterskoy” (”Along Piterskaya Street”), “Ochi chornye”, and many other beautiful Russian folk songs, romances and arias. Some of his recordings can be watched on page: http://www.eurolog-uk.org/en/category/russian-song-festival/

The event is organised by the London School of Russian Language and Literature www.russian-school.co.uk to mark its 15th Anniversary, and in support of the Russian language and culture in the UK (In aid of EUROLOG UK Association, Registered charity no. 1127800, www.eurolog-uk.org)
